She didn’t nap, I felt overwhelmed, I began stressing over timelines I find impossible to keep up with.
So we walked to town and got stuck at the library late. I got hungry, tired (and - what seemed like - increasingly pregnant) so I asked my husband to come get us with the car. Only to realize his car keys were with me in my bag…
Today was one of those days.
I cried a few times, I lost my shit, I found it again, we moved on.
There were kisses, hugs, laughter and silly play. And despite everything, life still seemed pretty perfect.
Because no matter the day, I’ve learned, love goes on.
No matter what,
Love goes on.
I didn’t mean for this day to be inspirational in any way, but it felt human.
It felt so darn true to what our experience here on Earth looks like and the fact that you can’t always plan for how things will turn out.
So the plumber who had come to fix our kitchen sink stayed an hour longer than expected, resulting in drilling and banging and (outside my understanding) loud talking with someone on the phone.
So my daughter, who had to finally attempt a nap, couldn’t settle.
So my window for getting work done quickly dwindled until, eventually, and right about the time the plumber was leaving, she was so riled up it was completely gone.
So it only happens to be the final week before my course launches and I have so much frigging sh*t I need to get done. Naturally, timing is impeccable as always.
So… what?
Let’s move on!
And let’s learn from life that we’re so used to and apply the same grit and recommitment to our climate work. Because our ability to pick up the pieces, reassess the situation, and find the best strategy forward, is what will allow us to keep going on this journey.
We should undoubtedly expect to run into roadblocks.
We should anticipate the pushbacks and know how to bounce back from setbacks whenever they occur. We must understand that navigating new territory (hey, building a whole new world?!) is going to be confusing and even frustrating at times and that the only thing that will guide us forward is the compassion towards ourselves and our inner light that refuses to give up.
Because we may not have all the answers and we may not be embarking on the easiest of journeys, but at least we have love. And no matter the day, no matter the challenges we stand up against, there is always love.
Because despite our shortcomings and our humanness and our missteps, love goes on.
